Your numbers
How we calculate it
The course grade is current × (1 − weight) + final × weight. Solving for the final gives needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight, where weight is written as a decimal.
If the answer is above 100, you cannot reach the target without extra credit or a change in how grades are weighted.
Assumptions and limits
- Make sure your current grade covers only the part of the course that is not the final, and that the final weight matches your syllabus.
- Rounding rules differ by instructor. If 89.5 rounds up to an A, enter 89.5 as the target.
Frequently asked questions
What do I need on the final to get an A?
Enter your current grade, 90 (or your instructor’s A cutoff) as the target and the weight of the final. The result is the minimum score required.
What if the answer is over 100%?
It means the target is out of reach with this exam alone. Ask about extra credit or aim for the next grade cutoff.
What if the answer is negative?
You already meet your target even with a zero on the final.
