How these business calculators work
Margin and markup are easy to mix up. Margin is profit divided by revenue, and markup is profit divided by cost, so a 50% markup is only a 33.3% margin. The Profit Margin and Markup calculators show both, so you can price from the number you actually care about. The Break-Even Calculator divides your fixed costs by the profit on each unit (price minus variable cost) to find how many units you must sell before you make money.
The pay calculators convert between hourly and yearly pay using hours per week and 52 weeks, and the Overtime Pay Calculator applies a multiplier to the hours past your threshold (1.5 times is common, for example under the U.S. federal Fair Labor Standards Act for hours over 40 in a week, but your state or contract may differ). Sales Tax and VAT calculators add or remove tax from a price, and Straight-Line Depreciation spreads cost minus salvage value evenly over the useful life. These are planning tools, not tax or accounting advice.
