Your numbers
How we calculate it
Every area is turned into square meters and then into the unit you want. Square units come from the length definitions: 1 square foot = 0.3048² m² = 0.09290304 m², and 1 square yard is 9 square feet. An acre is 4,840 square yards, so 1 acre = 4,046.8564224 m². A square mile is 640 acres and a hectare is 10,000 m².
So 1 acre is 43,560 square feet and about 0.4047 hectares. Results are shown to 12 significant digits.
Assumptions and limits
- These are international units. The US survey acre, based on the survey foot, is very slightly larger and is not included.
- An area unit is the length unit squared, so doubling a length makes the area four times bigger. 1 square meter is about 10.76 square feet and not 3.28.
- Use the area calculator to find the area of a shape first, then convert it here.
