Speed Converter
Enter a speed, choose the unit it is in and the unit you want. You get the converted speed and a table of the same speed in every unit.
Your numbers
How we calculate it
Every speed is turned into meters per second and then into the unit you want. One kilometer per hour is 1,000 ÷ 3,600 m/s. One mile per hour is 1,609.344 ÷ 3,600 = 0.44704 m/s exactly. One knot is one nautical mile per hour, 1,852 ÷ 3,600 m/s, and one foot per second is 0.3048 m/s.
So 60 mph is 96.56064 km/h, which is 26.8224 m/s. Results are shown to 12 significant digits.
Assumptions and limits
- A knot is exactly 1.852 km/h. It is used for ships and aircraft.
- The speed of sound and of light are not included, because the speed of sound changes with temperature.
- To find the time or distance for a trip, use the speed, distance and time calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert mph to km/h?
Multiply the miles per hour by 1.609344. 60 mph is 96.56064 km/h. To go the other way, multiply km/h by 0.621371192.
How do I convert km/h to m/s?
Divide by 3.6. So 100 km/h is 27.78 meters per second. To go the other way, multiply by 3.6.
How fast is one knot?
One knot is one nautical mile per hour, which is 1.852 km/h, about 1.15 mph or 0.5144 m/s.
