Cups to Ounces Calculator
Convert any US kitchen volume measure. By default it converts cups to fluid ounces; change the units to convert anything else.
Your numbers
How we calculate it
These are US customary volumes: 1 cup = 8 fluid ounces = 16 tablespoons = 48 teaspoons, 2 cups = 1 pint, 4 cups = 1 quart and 16 cups = 1 gallon. One US gallon is exactly 3.785411784 liters.
The calculator converts everything to milliliters and then to the target unit, so any pair of units works.
Assumptions and limits
- Fluid ounces measure volume. Ounces on a kitchen scale measure weight, and they are not interchangeable: a cup of flour weighs about 4.25 oz but fills 8 fluid ounces.
- The UK and metric cup are different sizes. Check which one a recipe uses.
Frequently asked questions
How many ounces are in a cup?
A US cup contains 8 fluid ounces.
How many cups are in a quart?
There are 4 cups in a US quart.
Is a fluid ounce the same as a weight ounce?
No. A fluid ounce measures volume and an ounce on a scale measures weight. They only match for water-like liquids, and then only approximately (a fluid ounce of water weighs about 1.04 oz).
