Dice Roller

Pick the die, how many to roll and a modifier, then press Roll again for a new roll. For D&D 5e you can roll a d20 with advantage or disadvantage, or roll 4d6 and keep the highest three. Each roll is added to the history below.

Your numbers

Leave empty to keep all. For 4d6 drop the lowest, roll 4 dice and keep 3.

    How we calculate it

Each die is a random whole number from 1 up to its number of sides, all equally likely. The total is the sum of the dice you keep plus the modifier. Two six-sided dice add up to between 2 and 12, with 7 the most common.

Advantage and disadvantage come from Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition: roll the d20 twice and keep the higher (advantage) or the lower (disadvantage). Keep highest is used for ability scores: roll 4d6 and keep the highest 3.

The numbers come from a seeded pseudo-random generator that gets a new seed on every roll. It is fine for games, but not for gambling or anything that must be unpredictable.

    Assumptions and limits

    • The roll history shows the rolls since you opened this page. It lives only in your browser and is cleared when you leave.
    • A natural 20 or natural 1 is shown when you roll a single d20 or use advantage or disadvantage.
    • Not suitable for gambling or for choosing secrets or passwords.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I roll with advantage in D&D?

Choose advantage, keep the die as a d20, and press Roll. The calculator rolls two d20 and keeps the higher one; the lower one is shown in brackets.

How do I roll ability scores?

Roll four six-sided dice, keep the highest three and add them. Set 4 dice, keep 3, die d6, and press Roll again six times.

    Are the rolls really random?

They come from a pseudo-random generator, which behaves randomly for games. Every face is equally likely and rolls do not depend on earlier ones.

What is the chance of rolling a natural 20?

One in 20, or 5%. With advantage it rises to about 9.75%, and with disadvantage it falls to 0.25%.

Can I roll many dice at once?

Yes, up to 100 dice of one size. The total, the lowest and highest possible totals and the average roll are shown.
